I don't know about you, but I am a book lover. Since I was little, I have loved to read books and immerse myself into a completely different world. I personally think that reading is the best escape from reality, especially when you find a book that grasps your full attention and is all you can think about when you aren't reading it. When I was in active addiction, I lost my love for reading. My priorities back then were getting high, getting drunk, and engaging in bad behaviors. I had absolutely no time for reading. However, when I started my sobriety journey, I found my love and passion for reading again. I go through ebbs and flows with reading. Sometimes I won't want to pick up a book because it has a slow start or it's really not speaking to me. But as time goes on, I find a book again that makes me remember why I love to read.

Reading is an incredibly healthy habit and is something I would encourage you to try if you don't already. There are so many different genres, so try reading something that you think would peak your interest. I have created a list below of ten books to read this Spring, including self-help books and fiction books. I hope this list is helpful to you and comment down below if you tried reading one or if you found any of them interesting.
As A Man Thinketh by James Allen
- In this book, James Allen argues that a person's thoughts directly shape their reality, meaning that by cultivating positive and focused thinking, us as individuals can actively create a better life for ourselves, as our character and circumstances are usually a reflection of our dominant thoughts. Essentially, "a man is literally what he thinks" and has the power to change his life by changing his mindset.
Let Them by Mel Robbins
- This book is centered around the "Let Them Theory" which encourages readers to stop trying to control others and instead focus on managing their own thoughts and actions, essentially letting people "be themselves" while prioritizing your own well-being and happiness by not wasting energy on things outside your control.
Prime Time Romance by Kate Robb
- This book tells the story of Brynn, a recently divorced woman who finds herself transported into her favorite fictional TV show, "Carson's Cove," after making a birthday wish to have a happily-ever-after. There, she becomes the show's sweetheart character, "Sloan," while her roommate Josh is cast as the bad boy, "Fletch," and they have to navigate the show's story line to find their way back home, potentially finding real love along the way while resolving the unresolved love story of the show's main characters.
She's Not Sorry by Mary Kubica
- This is a psychological thriller surrounded by Meghan Michaels, an ICU nurse who becomes involved in a mystery surrounding a patient named Caitlin, who arrives at the hospital in a coma after a seemingly self-inflicted fall from a bridge. As Meghan investigates further, she uncovers shocking secrets and realizes that Caitlin's injuries may not have been an accident, leading her to question who is responsible and putting herself and her daughter at risk.
Intermezzo by Sally Rooney
- A novel about two brothers, Peter and Ivan, who are grieving the death of their father. The book explores themes of grief, love, and sibling dynamics.
I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman
- A dystopian novel about a group of women and a girl who are held as prisoners in an underground cage. The women have no memory of how they got there, and the girl has no memory of the outside world.
Everything I Know About Love by Dolly Alderton
- A memoir about the author's experiences in her 20s. The book is about love, loss, friendship, and self-discovery.
Untamed by Glennon Doyle
- A memoir that encourages women to break free from social expectations and live authentically. This book is part memoir, part self-help guide.
The Greatest Miracle In the World by OG Mandino
- A self-help story about a successful writer named Augustine who encounters a mysterious old man named Simon, a "ragpicker" who spends his time reviving people who have lost hope in life by reminding them of their unique potential and worth, essentially showing them that the greatest miracle is the ability to live a meaningful life despite challenges. Through their interactions, Augustine undergoes a profound transformation.
Book Lovers by Emily Henry
- A romance novel about a literary agent and an editor who fall in love while working together in Sunshine Falls, North Carolina. The book explores themes of family responsibility and career aspirations.

Happy Reading!
